It was 30 years ago. Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals, in 1993. John Starks, from the New York Knicks, dunks over Horace Grant of the Chicago Bulls. That dunk is a moment in sports history that will never die.
That dunk might never have happened. Starks attended 4 different colleges and was pretty much done with basketball. The odds were stacked against him from the start. There were a few “big breaks” in John’s life. If those events didn’t happen, who knows what would have become of John Starks.
Raised by a single mother in Tulsa, OK, John was one of seven children and on welfare. An inspirational story, with the lesson of never giving up on your dream. Check out the full episode of Celebrity Jobber with John Starks here.
